There are many things to consider, but I’ll touch upon the ones I feel are very important.
1) The cleanliness of the procedure is of the utmost importance. Was it a professional studio? Was the studio clean and well kept? Does the studio use an autoclave (sterilizer) that is tested regularly? Did the piercer do an adequate job of cleaning the area prior to piercing?
2) Jewelry - I know you guys and gals hear us constantly talking about jewelry, and the reason we do that is because, quite simply, we love high quality jewelry. What material is the jewelry made from? Does it have a properly polished finish? Can you see your reflection in the jewelry? If threaded, is it internally threaded or thread-less? Is it fitted properly for your anatomy?http://www.safepiercing.org/piercing/jewelry-for-initial-piercings/
3) Aftercare - What was suggested to you?
4) And of course, appearance. How does the piercing look? Does the jewelry fit nicely? Is the angle and placement aesthetically pleasing?
I realize I answered your question with a lot of questions, but I think you get the idea.
I hope you found this response helpful. If not, let me know :)
